The proportion of over 70s holding a driving licence has been growing steadily and will continue to increase in the years ahead. The older population are increasingly active into later life and making a huge contribution to wider society either by working later, volunteering or supporting working age family, consequently the number of trips they make each year has also been increasing. The risk to older drivers also starts to rise quite sharply with age with drivers 80+ suffering the highest fatality rates of any age group.
